Barcelona is often used as a film set by many moviemakers. One of the most famous Spanish directors is Pedro Almodovar. I'd like to present you some areas in Barcelona portrayed in several movies. Popular places in Barcelona are the Columbus Monument in Plaza del Portal de la Pau, the Gothic Quarter and Palau de la Música. If you watch the movies "All About My Mother","L'Auberge Espagnole" and "Scent of a Murderess" you'll notice that all those movie scenes were used in a complete different way.

At many festivals you are likely to see circles of people dancing the Sardana. The Sardana is a typical Catalonian dance and is different from the other Spanish dances. The origin of this dance lies in Greece. Some people say that the dance was introduced during the period of Greek trading posts around Barcelona. Others say that the Sadana was not practices in Catalonia until the 15th centry, when Sardinia was occupied by the Catalans. In any case, the Sardana became a symbol of national identity.

During the period of industrialization Barcelona became a real city. This period was also the beginning of an adaptation in the Catalan cuisine. Catalans and Barcelonians will never give up eating well and always quality produce. Traditional Catalan dishes still continue to be made. The traditional dishes are oftenly served with more sauces and were initially substantially lighter. A good restaurant in Barcelona is definately Can Culleretes, originally opened as a chocolate house in 1786.
